Women's Gymnastics Performs Well Against No. 16 Auburn March 11, 2007

Chicago, Ill.- Sophomore Zandre Labuschagne's victory on uneven bars highlighted the UIC women's gymnastics team's performance against 16th-ranked Auburn at the UIC Physical Education Building on Sunday afternoon. The Flames held their own against the No. 16 Tigers, posting a 193.750 to Auburn's winning 195.8. Labuschagne turned in a personal-best score of 9.875 to share the bars title with Auburn's Julie Dwyer. On vault UIC was led by freshman Justine Weyer, who garnered a sixth-place 9.775. Senior Jessie Jaworowicz was UIC's leading performer on beam after scoring a 9.8 to place fourth. UIC rounded out the competition with a stellar floor exercise routine from sophomore Annie Kachman, who took fourth overall with a 9.850. Sophomore Ashley Thurston competed on floor exercise for the first time as a collegiate competitor, posting a solid 9.7. In the all-around Kachman led the Flames with a 39.050 that was good for third place. The Flames face the Fighting Illini of Illinois next Saturday, March 17th at Huff Hall in Champaign, Ill. beginning at 2:00 p.m.
