Women's Gymnastics Places Second At LSU Quad Meet
March 5, 2005 Baton Rouge, La.- Despite having their string of topping their season-best score the last six meets snapped, the University of Illinois at Chicago women's gymnastics team escaped the bayou with a nice finish by placing second in a tough four-team quad meet hosted by No. 2 LSU at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Friday night. UIC posted a 192.950 team tally, which was only toppled by the second-ranked Tigers' 196.175. New Hampshire finished third with a 192.375, while Western Michigan turned in a fourth-place 189.975. Sophomore Rachael Zelinski had another outstanding performance, leading UIC in both the balance beam (9.775) and the floor exercise (9.775). The Flames were led by Jackie Jaworowicz in the all-around, thanks to her score of 38.875. She finished only behind LSU's All-American April Burkholder, who had a 39.475. Freshman Ashley Howe continued her impressive rookie season with a team-leading 9.7 on vault and a nice 9.650 on floor exercise. UIC hits the road again this Wednesday to take on Midwest Independent rival Illinois State in Normal, Ill. at 7 p.m.
