Feb. 26, 2005
Chicago, Ill.- After notching a team-best five all-around titles in 2004, senior Alyson Cacciatore started off the 2005 campaign a little slowly after nursing a preseason back injury.
Saturday's performance against Western Michigan proved that she's back.
Cacciatore secured her first all-around crown of the season along with the uneven bars title, and sophomore Rachael Zelinski notched two event victories to push the UIC women's gymnastics team over the 195 team score mark with a 195.100-192.675 win over the visiting Broncos on Senior Day at the UIC Physical Education Building.
The Flames have now eclipsed their season-best total score in their last six meets, and their 195.1 bashed their previous 2005-high of 193.825 set last Saturday.
UIC set season-best marks as a team on vault with a 48.700 and on bars with a 48.825.
Cacciatore picked a perfect day to post the team's season-best all-around tally. Her 39.150 score highlighted Senior Day festivities as UIC honored Cacciatore, Jackie Jaworowicz, Stacey Magiera and Jennifer O'Neil following the meet.
The Glenview, Ill., native also won the bars title with a season-high 9.875 and took second place on beam.
Zelinski quietly chalked up two event wins with a 9.8 on balance beam and a 9.825 on floor exercise, tying Jaworowicz on floor for the day.
Veronique Meunier led UIC on vault with a 9.8 showing.
Sophomore Jessie Jaworowicz set a career-high on bars with a 9.75 to take third behind O'Neil's 9.8.
UIC is back in action this Friday, kicking off a three-meet road swing with a trip to Baton Rouge, La., to face LSU with New Hampshire beginning at 7 p.m.
