Box Score

Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's gymnastics team needed every bit of its season-high score of 195.425 on Saturday night as they escaped a strong performance from Western Michigan to earn a 195.425-194.075 victory at the Physical Education Building.

At the conclusion of the match, the Flames honored its seniors, but during the meet the senior class paid a little tribute of its own as senior's Cheryl Rubinger, Sara Casica and Laura Jungels all posted first-place finishes to help UIC sweep the four individual events and the all-around.

Senior Laura Jungels highlighted the night as she took first place on the balance beam, setting a new school record in the process with a 9.950. Jungles also finished second on the floor exercise with a 9.850.

Rubinger the floor exercise (9.875) and vault (9.825) and the all-around competition (39.425) while Casica claimed the top spot on the uneven bars with a 9.900. Rubinger also took second on the balance beam with a 9.900.

Several other Flames recorded memorable performances, including Kim Sommer's 9.875 on the uneven bars, which was good for second place, and Nadia Ori's 9.800 on the floor exercise, good for third.

It was the floor exercise, UIC's best event, that proved to be the difference in the tilt with the Broncos as the Flames posted a 49.050 to WMU's 48.125.

UIC, which has now claimed victory in its last seven meets, will be back in action on Sunday, March 4, when they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to take on the University of North Carolina.
