Champaign, Ill. - The women's gymnastics' team earned a 194.15-192.775 victory over host Illinois on Friday night.

"We started off a little slow on the bars," UIC women's gymnastics coach Peter Jansson said. "Then we did very good on the vault and it continued on the beam and the floor.

"This is a huge victory for us," Jansson continued. "The girls did a great job."

UIC received first-place finishes from junior Amy August (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) and senior Cheryl Rubinger (Stockton, Calif./Lincoln).

August was first overall on the vault (9.800) and was the Flames' top performer on the uneven bars with a score of 9.850. Rubinger earned top honors in the all-around (39.175) and tied a career-high on the balance beam with a 9.900.

The Flames also received solid performances from senior Laura Jungels (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) and junior Nadia Ori (Highland Park, Ill/Highland Park) as they both tied for second-place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.775.

UIC will be back in action on Sunday, February 18th as they will travel to Bloomington-Normal, Illinois to take on the Illinois State Redbirds at 6 PM.
