East Lansing, Mich.- The young UIC women's gymnastics team continued to make strides, posting a season-best 190.125 against Big Ten opponents Ohio State and Michigan State at Jenison Field House on Saturday night. The Flames placed third behind the victorious Buckeyes (194.850) and the second-place Spartans (194.425). Sophomore Annie Kachman led UIC in the all-around with a fifth-place 38.675, her best tally of the year to date. Kachman was the Flames' leader in two of four events as well, placing seventh overall on beam with a 9.650 while taking eighth on vault with the same score. Second-year performer Zandre Labuschagne posted a team-leading bars score of 9.750, followed by fellow sophomore Kristen Kulinczenko's 9.725 on the event. Rachael Zelinski led UIC in the floor exercise standings with a sixth-place 9.725. "The underclassmen went 15 of 16 routines without falls, despite some mistakes that can be corrected," said UIC co-head coach Peter Jansson. "Annie had a season-high in the all-around and Kristen, Zandre and Justine [Weyer] had great bar routines, along with a good floor from Rachael as well. "Everybody is looking forward to the home premiere in front of our alumni for homecoming next weekend." The Flames open the home slate with an Alumni Homecoming meet against San Jose State at the Physical Education Building on Saturday, February 3rd at 7:00 p.m.
