Women's Gymnastics Defeats Illinois State|

NORMAL, Ill. – The UIC women’s gymnastics team defeated Midwest Independent Conference rival Illinois State, 194.050-192.450, inside the Horton Field House Sunday in Normal, Ill. Senior Chantel Turk captured the all-around title with a 39.125.
“We had a really good day,” co-head coach Peter Jansson said. “There were several outstanding performances, including some very good performances on beam and vault. Alyssa [Cruz] stepped up big on three events today, which was a first for her. Overall, it was a very solid meet.”
Turk was the only competitor who posted an all-around score over 39. In addition to her first-place finish in the all-around, she also claimed the top spot on the floor with a 9.850.
There was a three-way tie for second place on the vault. Catherine Dion, Citlali Cuevas and Turk posted a 9.775 to lead the Flames. Turk also led UIC on the bars with a 9.750 score. Erin Duggan and Alyssa Cruz tied for first place along with Illinois State’s Samantha King on the balance beam with a 9.775.
The Flames return to action Saturday as UIC plays host to the Illinois versus Michigan Meet inside the Physical Education Building beginning at 5:00 p.m. The meet features Illinois State, Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan.
