Kachman, Labuschagne, Fiorilli Lead Women's Gymnastics To First Win Of Season

Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's gymnastics team earned its first victory of the season as they defeated conference rival Centenary 188.650-187.625 at the UIC Physical Education Building on Saturday night. UIC was led by juniors Annie Kachman, Zandre Labuschagne, and freshman Emily Fiorilli, winning three out of four individual titles for the Flames. Kachman won her second all-around title of the year with a combined score of 37.925. She also took home the balance beam crown posting a score of 9.800 and finished second in the parallel bars (9.675). Labuschagne won her first event title of the season, placing first on the uneven bars with score of 9.700. Fiorilli capped out the night earning her second individual title of the season, winning the floor exercise with a 9.675. The balance beam was UIC's strongest event of the evening and looked to be the contributing factor that led the team to victory. UIC won the balance beam crown with a team score of 48.175 compared to Centenary's 44.725. Other highlights on the evening included personal-best performances by Tristan Erlenbaugh on vault (9.400) and Christine Girard on balance beam (9.575). The UIC women's gymnastics team will return to competition on Friday, Feb. 1 as they take on Missouri in Columbia, Mo. at 6:30 p.m.
