Jan. 23, 2005
Iowa City, Iowa- While the meet was a day later than scheduled due to inclement weather, it was worth the wait to the University of Illinois at Chicago women's gymnastics team, who chalked up their first victory of the season with a 191.125-190.325 road win over Iowa on Sunday.
The Flames, who were supposed to meet the GymHawks on Saturday afternoon but were delayed by the snowstorm that passed through the Midwest this weekend, turned in a season-best score team score and used senior Jackie Jaworowicz's first all-around victory of the year to snare the win.
UIC received a very balanced team performance. Jaworowicz led the way with a 38.3 all-around score for the win, followed by Cacciatore in third place with a 37.9 and Jennifer O'Neil's fourth-place 37.5. O'Neil also took second in the uneven bars behind Cacciatore with a 9.675.
Senior Stacey Magiera led UIC on beam with a 9.675.
Freshman Ashley Howe placed third in the vault with a 9.675, while sophomore Rachael Zelinski had another outstanding meet. Zelinski placed third in both the balance beam (9.650) and and the floor exercise (9.725).
The elder Jaworowicz also led the team on floor with a 9.750.
Iowa was paced by Liz Grajewski, who won the floor exercise and placed second in the all-around competition.
UIC returns to action this Saturday, January 29th for a Midwest Independent clash with Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau, Mo. at 7 p.m.
