Women's Gymnastics Edged By North Carolina State

CHICAGO – The UIC women’s gymnastics team (1-2) was edged 194.200-193.050 to North Carolina State Saturday inside the Physical Education Building in Chicago, Ill. Junior Chantel Turk (Hazelcrest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) led the Flames in the vault (9.775) and floor exercise with a 9.775.

The Flames led off the meet with the vault, where the squad totaled 48.575 points, while Turk finished in the top spot for UIC, scoring 9.775 points, followed by co-captain senior Andrea Skala (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township) who posted a score of 9.750. The Wolfpack claimed the vault with a 48.925 score.

UIC concluded the first rotation on the uneven bars, where the squad topped North Carolina State with a 48.325 score to the Wolfpack’s 48.150. Skala led the Flames with a 9.725 score, followed by sophomore Cynthia Lemieux-Guillemette with a 9.700 score.

Moving into the second rotation, UIC was on the heels of North Carolina State as the Flames had a combined score of 96.900 to the Wolfpack’s 97.075.

The Flames began the second rotation on the balance beams, where co-captain Rachel Montoya (South Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) and junior Erin Duggan (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) both posted a 9.700 to lead the Flames. UIC was edged by the Wolfpack, 48.525-48.050 in the event.

UIC closed out the dual meet with the floor exercise, and Turk posted a 9.775, but North Carolina State outlasted the Flames, 48.600-48.100.

The Flames return to action Saturday, Jan. 28 at 5:00 p.m. (CT) against Kentucky inside the Physical Education Building in Chicago, Ill.
