Kalamazoo, Mich. - The UIC women's gymnastics team narrowly fell in defeat to Western Michigan 191.125-190.625 at University Arena on Sunday afternoon.

After losing a tough meet to No. 2 Florida last week, UIC showed signs of improvement against the Broncos.

UIC captured three out of four individual events and won the team floor exercise title.

Junior Annie Kachman led the Flames by winning the all-around competition (38.650) along with two individual events. She placed first on the vault (9.800) and floor exercise (9.750).

Freshman Emily Fiorilli captured her first individual title as a Flame by taking home the balance beam crown with a score of 9.775.

"I was proud to see Emily get her first collegiate event title," said co-head coach Peter Jansson.

Joining Fiorilli with excellent performances on the afternoon included a second place finish for junior Tristan Erlenbaugh on the uneven bars (9.625) and a third place finish for freshman Sarah Murray on the vault (9.625).

"We competed well today," said Jansson. "It was nice to see improvement in our scores compared to last week's meet.  I think once we get healthy as a team, our scores will continue to improve."

The Flames look to win their first dual meet of the season on Saturday, Jan. 26 as they host Centenary College at the UIC Physical Education Building (PEB) beginning at 5 p.m. The meet will be UIC's homecoming night as the women's team will compete alongside the men's team as they take on Iowa.
