Women's Gymnastics Places Fourth In Tucson

Tucson, Ariz.- The University of Illinois at Chicago women's gymnastics team did everything it could to keep pace with some of the top-rated squads in the nation, but the Flames fell short in finishing fourth against Arizona, Michigan State and Missouri on Friday evening at the McKale Center. UIC posted a 189.600 overall tally. Arizona won the meet with a 193.350, followed by the Spartans' 191.975 and the Tigers' 191.700. The Flames weren't too far behind, in part to a nice team floor routine of 48.525. Sophomore Rachael Zelinski turned in a career-best floor routine, scoring a 9.875 to share second place. Jennifer O'Neil led the Flames in the all-around for the second straight meet, notching a 37.9. Veronique Meunier contiued to shine on vault, as the school's record holder in the event took a 9.825 that tied for fourth place. UIC is back in action next Saturday at Iowa in Des Moines, Iowa at 7 p.m.
