Gainesville, Fla. - The UIC women's gymnastics team opened up the 2008 campaign against one of the nation's best on Friday evening. No. 2 ranked Florida downed UIC 197.125-187.825 in front of 5,129 fans at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.

UIC wasn't able to come away with any individual titles, but proved that it could compete with one of America's best teams.

Newcomers Sarah Murray and DeAvera Todd posted UIC's highest scores of the night. Murray finished with a 9.725 and Todd with a 9.700 on the vault. Freshman Emily Fiorilli also put forth a nice effort with consistent scoring on the vault (9.525) and balance beam (9.225).

Veteran Annie Kachman led UIC in the all-around competition, finishing the night off with a combined score of 38.125.

UIC will return back in action on January 20th as they take on Western Michigan in Kalamazoo at noon.
