Chicago, Ill. - Competing in front of a capacity crowd at the Physical Education Building, the women's gymnastics team lost its home opener to Illinois, 190.450-187.850.

Amy August finished second for UIC on the vault with a score of 9.625 while Kim Ball took second on the balance beam with a score of 9.675. Sara Casica also turned in a solid performance for UIC in the Flames' season opener, placing second on the floor excercise (9.675) and third in the All-Around (37.375).

The meet was the first of the season for both squads. The Flames return to action on Friday, Jan. 14, when they travel to Ball State to face the host Cardinals as well as West Virginia, Illinois and Wisconsin-Oshkosh. UIC's next home meet is on Saturday, Jan. 29, when the Oklahoma Sooners come to the Physical Education Building for a 7:00 p.m. meet.
