CHICAGO - The UIC women’s golf team will travel east to participate in their final event of the Fall season, the Dayton Flyer Invitational (Oct. 21-22). The tournament will be hosted at the revered North Course of NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
The Flames will arrive in Dayton rested and revitalized after battling minor injuries the last couple weeks.
“It is a very strong field, and we look forward to playing with some other Horizon League teams so that we can continue to measure our progress going into the winter offseason,” says UIC Head Coach Carol Rhoades.
The Flames will compete against Chicago State, Dayton, Detroit, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, IPFW, IUPUI, Loyola Chicago, Marshall, Northern Kentucky, Robert Morris, SIUE, Saint Francis (Pa.), Valparaiso, Green Bay and Youngstown State. The team hopes to finish off the season strong at the Flyer Invitational, which would add to the team’s stellar performance this Fall season.
Junior Cherise Mangal carded an 80 at the Green Bay Shootout (Sept. 8), which led her team to a third place finish. The Flames shot a 649 as a team at the Green Bay Invitational (Sept. 9-10), which is the third lowest 36-hole total the program has seen.
Smollen highlighted the Green Bay dual match (Sept. 14) as she collected the team’s first individual title with a career-low round of 76. At the Cougar Classic (Sept. 16-17), the Flames posted steady 18-hole totals of 325 and 325.
The team is coming off of a tie for eighth place at Butler’s Fall Invitational (Oct. 7-8), where junior Ryann Gilley carded a 36-hole total of 161. Gilley’s Tuesday score of 80 was her second lowest round of the Fall season. She shot a 78 at the Cougar Classic (Sept. 17) and Green Bay Invitational (Sept. 9).
