CHICAGO- The UIC women’s golf team will compete in their second and third events of the season at the Green Bay Shootout (Sept. 8) and Invitational (Sept. 9-10). The three days of tournament play will take place at Green Bay Country Club in Green Bay, Wis.
“After our assessment last week, and our focus and practice this week, I would expect the team to shoot 320 or better,” said head coach Carol Rhoades. “I expect our short game to be much better than last week.”
Eight teams will play in the tournament including Green Bay, Loyola, Butler, Creighton, Chicago State, Lewis, St. Ambrose, and the University of Indianapolis. The Flames will play in the Shootout on Sunday starting at 1:30 p.m. CT, and play Monday and Tuesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Invitational. The lowest-four rounds for each team will count towards the final team score for each day.
The Flames are coming off of their home opener last week at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Ill, where they hosted cross-town rivals Chicago State and Loyola. The Flames took third at the event, but had two players in the top-10. Junior Elizabeth Curtiss carded a 78 and lost in a scorecard playoff for first place, and sophomore Caitlan Smollen placed sixth with a score of 80.
