June 24, 2013
CHICAGO - Sophomore transfer Ryann Gilley added much-needed experience to UIC's young women's golf program during the 2012-13 season. The native of Flossmoor, Ill., emerged as the Flames' leader in scoring average in just her first year of the program, and kicks off this week's collection of featured student-athletes in the "Forty Flames to Follow" in 2013-14 summer series.
Gilley transferred to UIC from Southern Illinois after her freshman season (2011-12), and at the outset of the 2013 spring campaign, emerged as the top golfer in head coach Carol Rhoades' lineup. Gilley played in all 11 tournaments and 22 rounds during the 2012-13 campaign. She posted a team-best scoring average of 84.32, including two rounds in the 70s, and 18 other rounds shooting in the 80s.
Down the stretch of the competitive spring season, Gilley was playing her best golf. Playing six rounds in the state of Florida during the months of March and April, Gilley posted an impressive scoring average of 82.67. During the 2013 Horizon League Championship (April 26-28) at Mission Inn Golf Resort in Howley-in-the-Hills, Fla., Gilley carded three consistent rounds in the 80s (86-82-83).
Gilley will lead a group of all five returning starters that comprised UIC's primary lineup last season. Stay tuned to UICFlames.com for the official release of the Flames' fall and spring schedules.
