CHICAGO - The UIC women’s golf team recently wrapped its third year on campus and the Flames recorded its best season to date. The fall season saw the team's first individual title and the spring concluded with UIC’s best finish at the Horizon League Championship.

UIC finished in sixth place at the Horizon League Championship with a three-round total of 985, four shots in front of Green Bay. The Flames’ 54-hole total (985) is the lowest team score at the conference championship in program history. UIC had three different players tally rounds in the 70s at the conference championship for the first time.

UIC also posted the third lowest round in program history during the first round of the Green Bay Invitational (Sept. 9). The Flames combined for a round of 320 and the performance only trails past UIC efforts at the 2011 Detroit Titans Fall Classic (308) and 2012 Detroit Titans Fall Classic (312).

“I am pleased with our team’s third season culminating in our best Horizon League Championship finish,” said UIC head coach Carol Rhoades. “We have identified our strengths and weaknesses and have committed to a path of improvement. Our biggest strides this season were accomplished in the areas of course management and mental skill development. These areas take a tremendous amount of dedication and we saw a marked improvement as the season came to a close. Our players made the transition to the mature upper classmen that leads to success.”

Ryann Gilley

Gilley led the Flames with an 82.90 scoring average and posted two rounds in the 70s. Gilley carded rounds of 78 at the Green Bay Invite (Sept. 9) and Cougar Golf Classic (Sept. 17). Her best finish was a tie for eighth following an 83 at the Titan Tri-Match (March 9). Gilley’s best weekend was at the Green Bay Invitational (Sept. 9-10) when she tied for ninth with a two-round total of 158. She concluded the spring by tying for 23rd at the Horizon League Championships (April 25-27) with a three-round total of 248 (80-85-83).

COACH RHOADES: “Once again, Ryann was our most consistent performer while playing in the No. 1 position. She competed against our opponent's best players and that creates an additional amount of pressure.”
