Women's Golf Enjoys Solid Showing in Orlando Tri-Meet

Cherise Mangal carded a 10-over-par 82 to finish in a fourth-place tie, pacing the UIC women's golf team's performance in a Tri-Meet against Detroit and Niagara at Rio Pinar C.C., on Friday.
Mangal led three Flames finishing in the top-10 of the 17-player field. Sophomore Lindsay Purpura shot a single-round total of 83, tying for sixth overall, while sophomore transfer Ryann Gilley shot 85, tying for eighth individually. Freshman Caitlan Smollen carded a 90, while Elizabeth Curtiss shot 91 and Kayla Stueland fired a 92.
As a team, the Flames shot a single-round total of 348. Niagara finished in second with a team tally of 340, while Detroit finished first with a team score of 318.
"We made progress on our course management skills today and look forward to our continued improvement this weekend," said head coach Carol Rhoades. "I was really pleased with Cherise's round, as well as Lindsay's."
UDM captured the top-three individual finishes, with Olivia Richards claiming medalist honors with a five-over-par 77.
UIC will begin action in the Third Annual Sunshine Classic at Rio Pinar C.C. Sunday. The Flames will play one 18-hole round on both Sunday and Monday.
