Angela Shin Leads UIC Women's Golf at Flyer Invitational|

KETTERING, Ohio - The UIC women’s golf team competed in its seventh and final event of the Fall season Monday and Tuesday at Dayton’s Flyer Invitational (Oct. 21-22) and placed in a tied for 15th (664). Senior Angela Shin was the Flames’ best finisher as she placed in a tie for 40th with a 36-hole total of 163.
Held at the revered North Course of NCR Country Club, the Butler Fall Invitational also featured teams from Chicago State, Dayton, Detroit, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, IPFW, IUPUI, Loyola Chicago, Marshall, Northern Kentucky, Robert Morris, SIUE, Saint Francis (Pa.), Valparaiso, Green Bay and Youngstown State. The Flames shot a 333 on Monday and improved their score by two strokes on Tuesday (331).
"I am pleased with our progress Tuesday as the weather was challenging and we improved our score from Monday," said UIC head coach Carol Rhoades. "We look forward to working on our short games the next few months as we prepare for the Spring Championship season."
Junior Cherise Mangal tied for 63rd with a 36-hole total of 167. Mangal carded a 79 on Tuesday, which was her lowest of the Fall season and a nine-shot improvement on her Monday round of 88.
Junior Ryann Gilley (168) and sophomore Caitlan Smollen (171) placed in a tie for 67th and 77th, respectively. Gilley fired an 82 on Tuesday while Smollen carded an 84. Junior Elizabeth Curtiss shot an 83 on Monday and finished in 85th (173).
