Women's Golf Wraps Play at Butler Fall Invitational|

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIC women’s golf team competed in its sixth event of the Fall season Monday and Tuesday at Butler’s Fall Invitational and placed in a tie for eighth (685). Junior Ryann Gilley was the Flames’ best finisher as she placed in a tie for 21st with a 36-hole total of 161.
Held at Highland Golf and Country Club in Indianapolis, the Butler Fall Invitational also featured teams from Evansville, Green Bay, Indiana State, Eastern Illinois, Valparaiso, IUPUI, Loyola, Purdue and Butler. The Flames shot a 346 on Monday and improved their score by seven strokes on Tuesday (339).
“Ryann Gilley continues her solid play again leading the Flames,” said UIC head coach Carol Rhoades. “Angela Shin is making significant progress returning from injury. We learned a lot this event about ourselves and will evaluate our performance, refocus our efforts in our quest to improve within the Horizon League.”
Gilley’s Tuesday score of 80 is her second lowest round of the 2013 Fall season. She shot a 78 at the Cougar Classic (Sept. 17) and Green Bay Invitational (Sept. 9).
Senior Angela Shin tied for 39th with a 36-hole total of 172. Shin carded an 84 on Tuesday, which was a four-shot improvement on her Monday round of 88.
Sophomore Caitlan Smollen and junior Cherise Mangal both carded a 36-hole total of 176 to finish in a tie for 44th place. Smollen fired an 87 on Tuesday while Mangal carded an 88 both days. Junior Elizabeth Curtiss shot a 92 both rounds to finish in a tie for 57th (184).
UIC is off next weekend and the Flames conclude their Fall season at Dayton’s Flyer Invitational (Oct. 21-22).
