LAKE MARY, Fla. – The UIC women’s golf team wrapped the first day of competition at Seminole State’s Spring Break Invitational Tuesday and is in fourth place after a round of 356. The Flames conclude the event Wednesday at Timacuan Golf Club.

“Every player is rounding into shape after three days of hitting off grass under competitive conditions,’ said UIC head coach Carol Rhoades. “If we better manage less than ideal shots, we will be able to meet our goal of 320. We have had a wonderful opportunity to evaluate our offseason progress and chart our course for the remainder of the season.”

Junior Elizabeth Curtiss shot a team-low 83 on Tuesday and fellow junior Ryann Gilley was right behind with an 88. Curtiss improved 11 shots from her Sunday round at the Titan Tri-Match.

Junior Cherise Mangal improved one shot from Sunday’s round with a 92 while sophomore Caitlan Smollen matched her Sunday score with a 93. Junior Kayla Stueland improved 11 shots from Sunday with a 97 and freshman Shannon Menard finished with a round of 104.
