    ORLANDO, Fla. - Freshmen women's golfers Alex Perez and Kayla Stueland both finished in the top-50 of the individual field, capping off the Flames' performance at the two-day Detroit Sunshine Spring Classic at Rio Pinar Country Club Friday afternoon.

    Perez shot 79 in Friday's second round, matching her opening round total, and finished tied for 13th individually (79-79: 158). Stueland improved upon Thursday's round (88) by one stroke, shooting 87 to finish tied for 41st overall. Cherise Mangal (88), Elizabeth Curtiss (89) and Lindsay Purpura (93) all improved upon their first-day totals, as the Flames finished 10th in the team field.

    Lehigh University won the team title, shooting 623 as a team. The Flames finished nine strokes behind ninth-place IPFW. Horizon League members Detroit and Valparaiso finished third and seventh in the field, respectively.

    UIC will resume its spring season next Monday, when the Flames take part in the two-day (March 12-13) Don Benbow Invitational at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club in Jacksonville, Fla.
