Perez Tied for 12th after Day One of Sunshine Spring Classic
March 9, 2012
Day One Spring Sunshine Classic Results Kayla Stueland shot 88, while Elizabeth Curtiss shot 90 in her first action since the opening round of last fall's Redbird Invitational. Cherise Manga carded a 91, while Lindsay Purpura shot 102. "We had a lot of positives today, and got some of the rust off," said head women's golf coach Carol Rhoades. "Alex (Perez) played very well, and led the team. I expect much better results on Friday - if we improve our collective short game, we'll be in a much better position." As a team, the Flames finished 10th in the field, with Perez, Stueland, Curtiss and Mangal all finishing the day in the top-50 individually. UIC enters Friday's final round just six strokes behind ninth-place Jackson State, and only 11 strokes short of Valparaiso and IPFW, who are tied for seventh in the field.
