    Flames Duel with Loyola, Green Bay on Final Day of HL Championship

    The youthful UIC women's golf team completed a solid showing in the Horizon League Championship Sunday, shooting a team total of 335 for the second-straight round at Las Colinas at Mission Inn Golf Resort. The Flames finished just two strokes shy of Loyola and Green Bay on the final day of competition. UIC counted four scores in the 80's in all three rounds of the tournament.

    Sophomore Cherise Mangal led her team for the second-consecutive day, carding a seven-over-par 79 to help the UIC women's golf team shoot a 335 during Saturday's second-round of the Horizon League Women's Golf Championship at Las Colinas at Mission Inn Golf Resort. The Flames improved upon their first-round team tally by three strokes.

    The UIC women's golf team counted four scores in the 80's, shooting a collective first-round total of 338 during Friday's opening day of the Horizon League Championship at Las Colinas at Mission Inn Golf Resort. Sophomore Cherise Mangal, playing in the No. 3 spot, carded an 11-over-par 83 to tally the Flames' low scoring effort.

    The UIC women's golf team is set to embark on its second-ever Horizon League Championship experience this week, when the Flames join six other League members at Mission Inn Golf Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The women's tournament will be played on the Las Colinas Golf Course.

    Competing as an individual, sophomore women's golfer Kayla Stueland put together her best tournament of the spring season, shooting a two-round total of 169 (84-85) to finish in a fourth-place tie in the two-day Loyola Invitational at the Golf Club of Illinois. Freshman Caitlan Smollen also finished in the top-10, carding back-to-back rounds of 85.

    The UIC women's golf team, which has been idle since April 7, will resume its spring season this weekend, when the Flames travel to Algonquin, Ill., to participate in the two-day Loyola Invitational at the Golf Club of Illinois. The field will include UIC, Green Bay and host Loyola.
