CHICAGO – UIC women’s basketball player Terri Bender was named the Horizon League’s Newcomer of the Week for the period of Dec. 24-30 as announced by the conference office Monday morning. Bender guided the Flames to victory last Friday night at home against Western Michigan by final score of 66-58.
“Terri keeps getting better every time she plays,” said head coach Regina Miller. “She has already made tremendous strides since the start of the season and I expect her to continue to do so.”
Against the Broncos, Bender posted a career-high 16 points and six made field goals, while shooting 6-of-11 from the field. The point guard also grabbed six boards and collected three steals.
In the last four games, Bender is averaging 8.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. The Flames are 3-1 in that same span and tout a three-game home win streak.
This award marks the first weekly accolade of Bender’s collegiate career and the second honor for UIC this season. Junior transfer Rachel Story earned Newcomer of the Week laurels on Nov. 26.
