Women's Basketball Falls To Challengers

Nov. 10, 1999

CHICAGO - The University of Illinois at Chicago women?s basketball team surrendered a 12-point lead in the second half, dropping its lone preseason contest 66-61 to the Chicago Challengers Wednesday night at the UIC Pavilion.

Ahead 59-47 with 6:19 remaining in the game, the Flames would tally only a pair of free throws down the stretch, as the Challengers would close the game out on a 19-2 run.

Junior Josie Cole (Chicago, Ill./Washington), UIC?s top returning scorer from last season, led the Flames on both ends of the court as she finished the night with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Several of UIC?s newcomers had eye-opening performances in their inaugural outing for the Flames. Kimberly Henry (Opelousas, La./Meridian C.C.) totaled 10 points, and was a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the three-point arc. Melea Clark (Columbus, Ohio/Trinity Valley C.C.), who scored UIC?s first five points, ended the night with seven points, five assists and four rebounds, while freshman LeKesha Williams (Oklahoma City, Okla./Midwest City) tabbed six points and two boards in 16 minutes of play.

The Flames get the 1999-2000 regular season underway on Friday, Nov. 19, when they welcome Valparaiso to the UIC Pavilion at 4:30 p.m.
