CHICAGO—UIC women’s basketball player Rachel Story has been selected as the Illinois National Guard UIC Flames Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Nov. 18-24. Story averaged 25 points in last week’s two games against SIUE and Miami. Her impressive play has led the 3-2 flames to a three-game winning streak for the first time since Feb. 2012. She was also named the Horizon League Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
At SIUE, Story contributed 27 points to an overall 88-65 road win. She shot 8-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point land and hit 6-of-8 free throws. The senior also ended the night with four assists and four rebounds.
In the next game against Miami, Story scored 23 points in the 76-66 home victory. She shot 5-of-6 three-pointers and hit 8-of-10 free throws.
Her five three-pointers against SIUE and Miami marked a new career-high for the Milwaukee, Wis. native. Although she missed the first two games of the season, Story is averaging 22.7 points and shooting 59.1 percent from downtown (13-of-22) since her return.
Story is the first women’s basketball player to be named Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week so far this season.
The Flames will next head to Guaynabo, Puerto Rico to compete in the San Juan Shootout during the Thanksgiving Break. UIC will face Ohio (Nov. 29) and Texas Southern (Nov. 30).
