Story Named Horizon League Newcomer of the Week|
Nov. 26, 2012
INDIANAPOLIS - UIC women's basketball player Rachel Story has been named the Horizon League Newcomer of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday morning, for the period of Nov. 19-25.
The junior transfer from Louisville poured in a career high 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting in a non-conference loss to Illinois State this past Wednesday. She also posted a career high five assists and added six rebounds to her totals.
The Milwaukee native has scored 17 points or higher in all four of UIC's games this season and ranks fourth among league scorers with an average of 20 points per game. Story is also tied-for-fourth in the conference in assists (4.0) and is tied-for-14th in steals (1.5).
"Rachel (Story) has the ability to score in a variety of ways," said head coach Regina Miller. "We are still figuring out our offensive identity and many of her shots have been created on her own. She has provided our offense with a spark when we needed it and has hit some big shots for us."
The honor marks the first Newcomer of the Week accolade for the Flames since the award's inception at the start of the 2012-13 season. UIC's most recent weekly Horizon League laurel was back on Jan. 23, 2012 as then-senior Jasmine Bailey was named Player of the Week.
The Flames return to action on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Southeast Missouri as they begin a three-game road stretch. After SEMO, UIC travels north to play St. Louis on Dec. 3 and then visits Indiana State on Dec. 7.
