INDIANAPOLIS – Senior guard Rachel Story (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King/Louisville) has been named the Horizon League's “Player of the Week" for the period of Nov. 18-24, it was announced by the conference office Monday morning. This is the first such honor for UIC this season and Story’s first career “Player of the Week” award. She earned Newcomer of the Week on Nov. 26, 2012 on her way to being named to the 2012-13 Horizon League All-Newcomer Team.

Story averaged 25.0 points and 5.0 made three-pointers a game last week in wins over SIUE (Nov. 20) and Miami (OH) (Nov. 23). She shot .619 from the field (13-of-21), .714 from three-point land (10-of-14) and sank 14-of-18 free throws. Story also averaged 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists over 36.5 minutes per contest.

Story scored a game-high 27 points, one off her career high, and UIC cruised to an 88-65 road victory over SIUE last Wednesday. Story was 8-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point land, and hit 6-of-8 free throw attempts. Story also contributed four assists and four rebounds against the Cougars.

Story then scored 23 points Saturday afternoon and UIC picked up its third straight victory with a 76-66 home win over Miami. She hit 5-of-6 three-pointers and 8-of-10 free throw attempts. Story’s five three-pointers against both SIUE and Miami are a career-high.

Story now owns 13 performances of over 20 points in her UIC career. She missed the first two games of the season but is averaging 22.7 points and shooting 59.1 percent from downtown (13-of-22) since her return.

Story does not qualify for the Horizon League’s rankings yet (a player must appear in at least 75.0 percent of their team's games). However, she would rank second in the conference in scoring (22.7 ppg), first in three-pointers made (4.3 per game), second in three-point field goal percentage (.591), second in minutes played (36.3 per game) and fourth in field goal percentage (.531).

Story has helped UIC win three straight games for the first time since Feb. 9-16, 2012. One more win would be UIC’s first four-game win streak since Jan. 14-28, 2012.

The Flames (3-2) travel to Puerto Rico to participate in the San Juan Shootout during Thanksgiving Break. UIC will face Ohio (Nov. 29) and Texas Southern (Nov. 30).
