    Let the Games Begin
The 42nd season of the UIC women’s basketball program will begin on Friday, Nov. 9 as the Flames host Truman State inside the UIC Pavilion at 7 p.m. ET.  Although the contest serves as the regular season opener for UIC, Friday’s game is the second and final exhibitioner for the visiting Bulldogs of Division-II.

    Undefeated in Exhibition Play
The Flames swept through the 2012-13 exhibition season with an unblemished 2-0 record, defeating St. Joseph’s College (65-51) and Illinois-Springfield (81-58).  Junior Rachel Story led all scorers in the two-game set with an average of 18.5 points per game, while redshirt junior Katie Hannemann paced the Flames on the boards with an 8.5 per game clip.  Hannnemann recorded the most impressive single-game performance of the preseason against UIS as she posted 24 points and 10 rebounds on 10-for-10 field goal shooting.

    Preseason Respect
Despite graduating more than 70 percent of its offense from last season, the 2012-13 Flames were tabbed sixth in the Horizon League preseason poll.  The 70-plus percent deficit is the largest in the conference (WSU ranks eighth at 40 percent) as they also rank last in returning rebounds, assists and minutes played.  UIC also stands as the most inexperienced team in the Horizon League with six freshmen and eight newcomers.

    Miller Time
UIC head coach Regina Miller returns for her second season as the Flames general after producing 18 wins in her first year, a program best for a new head coach.  Eighteen wins also stands as the second-most victories in team history as the Flames picked up its first Horizon League Tournament win last year since 2006-07 with a 66-53 quarterfinal win over Butler at home.

    Off to a Good Start
During the past decade, the UIC women’s basketball program has been starting the season off in a winning way.  The Flames have won seven of its last 11 season openers, including eight of its last 11 home openers.  When UIC opens its season at home, the team is 5-1 in the last six attempts as they look to improve that mark to 6-1 on Friday against Truman State. Head coach Regina Miller is 11-6 all-time in season openers after winning her first game as a Flame last season against Drake.

    Foulks Looks for Career Season
Senior guard Taylor Foulks has her sights set on numerous UIC career leaderboards as she enters her final season as a Flame.  She currently ranks fifth on the all-time made threes list with 176, needing 63 more to claim the No. 1 spot from Hall-of-Famer Joanne McCarthy.  Foulks also needs 223 points this season to be listed with the 1,000-career point scorers and just 24 more steals to enter the top 10 leaderboard for career steals.

    The Story Continues…
Junior Rachel Story is now eligible to play after sitting out all of the 2011-12 season due to NCAA transfer rules.  Story joined the UIC program after spending two years with Louisville, playing in 51 games and helping the Cardinals to a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in 2011.  In her first two exhibition games with the Flames this season, Story leads the team in scoring with 18.5 points per game.

    Welcome Newcomers
The 2012-13 Flames welcome eight total newcomers to the team and two new additions to the staff.  Junior Megan Wallace comes to UIC from Walters State junior college where she helped her team to a 50-10 record over two years.  Sophomore Ruvanna Campbell transferred from La Salle where she led all A-10 freshmen in rebounding (7.6) and blocks (1.5), but will sit out the entire season due to NCAA rules.  The incoming freshmen include guards Terri Bender and Marissa Grossfeld, forwards Imani Moore, Ariel Sneed and Isis Haywood and center Caitlin Bogan.  The new staffers include assistant coach Laura Gonsalves and Director of Operations Lindsay Scarlatelli.

    New Court
The UIC Pavilion recently received a facelift with the installation of a new basketball court.  The hardwood features a red boarder surrounding the playing area and showcases UICFLAMES.COM in-between the home and visitor bench. NBA-style shot clocks were also installed as well as NBA backstops on the hoops.
