INDIANAPOLIS - With five days remaining before the lone exhibition game, a pair of UIC Flames has earned preseason recognition. Seniors Katie Hannemann and Rachel Story have been voted Preseason First Team All-Horizon League, the conference office announced Monday.

UIC received three first-place votes in the poll and was selected to finish fourth in the League standings. The League’s head coaches, SIDs and selected media members voted in the poll.

UIC returns nine letterwinners from the 2012-13 campaign, including three starters in Hannemann, Story and Terri Bender. Nearly 82 percent of last year’s offense is back for the 2013-14 season.

This is the second time in two weeks that Hannemann and Story have received preseason honors. The duo was previously named College Sports Madness Preseason First Team All-Horizon League on Oct. 14.

Both Hannemann and Story are coming off stellar years in 2012-13. Hannemann was voted Second Team All-League while Story was selected to the All-Newcomer squad. The duo combined to average nearly 30 points per game and led the Flames in scoring in 24 of their 29 regular season contests.

Hannemann was honored as the conference Player of the Week twice (Feb. 11 & Feb. 25). She led the team in rebounding (6.9 rpg) and ranked second in scoring (13.6 ppg). The Homer Glen, Ill. native tallied 22 double-digit scoring performances and five 20-point outings. She shot a team-best .502 (163-of-325) from the floor and ranked fifth in the Horizon League. Hannemann’s 3.8 offensive rebounds per game ranked second in the conference.

Story led the team in scoring and ranked sixth in the Horizon League at 15.6 points per game. She also tallied a 3.7 assists per game average, which led the team and ranked ninth in the conference. Story served as the conference's highest scoring newcomer and garnered Newcomer of the Week honors on Nov. 26. The Milwaukee, Wis. native was one of just six players in the conference to finish the season with 11 20-point outings.

UIC will take the court for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 2, when the Flames entertain Elmhurst College in their lone exhibition game. The regular season opener is set for Friday, Nov. 8, when St. Xavier visits the UIC Pavilion.
