Scarlatelli Named UIC Director of Women's Basketball Operations
Aug. 9, 2012
CHICAGO – UIC head women’s basketball coach Regina Miller announced the hiring of Lindsay Scarlatelli to the position of Director of Basketball Operations. Scarlatelli will work directly with Miller on coordinating team travel, budget, practices, camps and many other program functions.
"I am extremely excited to be joining the UIC staff,” said Scarlatelli. “I look forward to learning a great deal from not only Coach Miller, but Coach Jerro, Coach VanZeben, and Coach Gonsalves. I am blessed that Coach Miller has given me this opportunity to be part of such a great program. The future is very exciting and I cannot wait to assist the Flames in continuing to be successful and compete for a Horizon League Championship.”
Scarlatelli comes to UIC from Michigan State where she was a graduate assistant coach with the women's basketball program from 2010-2012 and was an integral part of the Spartans first-ever Big Ten Championship in 2011. The Rochester, Mich., native, assisted the coaching staff with day-to-day efforts including, but not limited to, recruiting, scouting, player development, coordination and management of visiting team practices and shoot arounds, overseeing graduate assistants and managers, and supervised the MVP ball club consisting of more than 500 youth.
"Lindsay is a great compliment to our staff,” said Miller. “In her young career, she has had the opportunity to work with some outstanding coaches in our profession. She brings a diverse background of experience to our program and I look forward to having Lindsay as a part of our team at UIC."
At MSU, she also was an active member with Michigan State's Athletes In Action (AIA) program. Upon completion of her master's degree in kinesiology, Scarlatelli spent all of July 2012 working with the US Junior National Championships at numerous events across the country, overseeing the college coach check-in table.
“Lindsay (Scarlatelli) is one of our profession's future stars,” said Michigan State head coach Suzy Merchant. “Her commitment to our program at Michigan State was remarkable and her impact significant. Lindsay understands the necessity to blend social media and technology in today's recruiting market. Her work ethic and dedication to the game of women’s basketball is truly incredible and refreshing.”
Prior to her two years with the Spartans, Scarlatelli earned her bachelor's degree in communications, with a minor in history, from Oakland University in 2010. At Oakland, she was the video coordinator and head manager for their women’s basketball program. The Grizzles claimed the Mid-Continent regular season championship in 2007 and garnered a bid to the 2007 and 2009 postseason WNIT. While assisting the basketball program, Scarlatelli was four-year letterwinner for the varsity golf team where she made the Academic All-Summit League Team in 2008, was a representative of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and was the music coordinator for the softball program.
