CHICAGO – UIC head women’s basketball coach Regina Miller announced the addition of Tiffany Sardin as the Flames’ new assistant coach on Wednesday afternoon, pending Board of Trustees approval.  A native of Chicago, Sardin was a three-year captain for the University of Virginia and spent the previous season on the Mt. Olive College coaching staff.

“I am delighted to have Tiffany join our women’s basketball staff,” said Miller.  “I followed her playing career since her high school days here in Chicago and not only was she an outstanding basketball player, but an exceptional student as well.  She brings a wealth of knowledge to our student-athletes from her experience as a professional basketball player, and her competitive spirit.  Tiffany will also enhance our recruiting ties in the Chicagoland area.”

As an assistant coach at Mt. Olive, Sardin helped the Trojans compile an 18-12 record and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Championship, marking their second-ever postseason berth.  Mt. Olive earned the automatic bid by claiming the Conference Carolinas Tournament title with an overtime win against Pfieffer.

“I am extremely excited to be back home and a part of Coach Miller’s staff,” said Sardin.  “I am very blessed for this opportunity and look forward to helping the Flames continue to develop a winning program.”

Prior to Mt. Olive, Sardin spent three years as the head coach at William Byrd High School in Vinton, Va.  From 2007-10, Sardin played professionally in the European Basketball Federation in Madeira, Portugal where she was a three-time captain.

Sardin graduated from Virginia in 2006 with a degree in sociology.  As a member of Cavaliers women’s basketball program, she captained the squad for three-consecutive seasons.  In 2006, Sardin was selected as the team’s Cavalier of the Year and Best Offensive Player.  She started every game during her final season, pacing the team in rebounding and ranking third in scoring.

In 2009, Sardin was inducted into the Chicago Public Schools Hall of Fame for her outstanding prep career at John Marshall.  The previous year she was honored by the city of Harvey as a selection to the city’s Hall of Fame.
