CHICAGO - Three UIC women’s basketball players have received All-Horizon League accolades as voted on by the conference’s head coaches, sports information directors and select media, the league office announced today.

Senior Jessie Miller, the Flames’ leading scorer, and sophomore Jasmine Bailey, the team’s top rebounder, were both named to the All-Horizon League Second Team.

Miller averaged a team-high 13.8 ppg (seventh in the Horizon League) this year and poured in a career-high 29 points on Jan. 30th in a road win over Loyola. On Saturday, the Burnsville, Minn. native became the fourth all-time leading scorer in UIC history with 1,454 points. The senior started all 29 regular season games for the Flames and also led the team in assists (2.8 apg), minutes played (35.2 mpg) and ranked second in rebounding (5.1 rpg).

“Jess is the emotional leader of our team,” said UIC head coach Lisa Ryckbosch about the four-year starter. “She led us in scoring and she really makes things go for us.”

This is the second consecutive season that Miller has been named has been named to the All-Horizon League Second Team. She was a Preseason All-Horizon League First Team selection this season.

Bailey, the 2009 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, was named to the All-Horizon League Team for the first time in her young career. She was a Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team honoree.

The St. Louis native led UIC and ranked fourth in the Horizon League in rebounding this season with 8.1 rpg. She led the league in field goal percentage (.568; 121-for-213) and ranked fifth in steals (2.0 spg).

Bailey was also named to the Horizon League’s All-Defensive team today. She ranked in the top five in the league in defensive rebounding (5.2 rpg), blocked shots (0.9 bpg) and steals (2.0 spg).

“Jas had big offensive games, but defensively is where she really made her presence felt,” said Ryckbosch. “Her ability to create offense from defense by creating steals and doing such a great job on the glass is very important for our basketball team.”

Finally, freshman Taylor Foulks was named to the All-Newcomer Team. The Joliet, Ill. native averaged 7.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg and 1.7 apg. She made 11 starts for UIC this season and ranked eighth in the Horizon League in three-point field goal percentage (35.7 percent; 55-for-154).

“Taylor made huge strides,” said Ryckbosch. “We knew she was going to be very big for us. Her work ethic and willingness to do little things to get better certainly meant a lot to a lot of our wins this year.”

Butler’s Melanie Thornton captured both the Horizon League Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year award. Her teammate Susan Lester won the Sixth Player of the Year Award, while Detroit’s Yar Shayok was named Newcomer of the Year; her head coach, Detroit's Autumn Rademacher, was named Coach of the Year.
