    Chicago, Ill. - UIC women's basketball senior LaShonda Grant received All-Horizon League First Team honors, announced by the league office Monday morning.

    Grant, a four-time All-Horizon League recipient, was recognized for her performance this season after averaging a team-best 15.3 points, 2.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Grant ranks third in the conference in points and steals, while owning eighth in assists.

    The guard became the 11th player in school history to score 1,000 career points on Nov. 17 against Central Michigan.

    Joining Grant on the All-Horizon League First Team are Butler's Jackie Closer, UW-Green Bay's Natalie Berglin, UW-Green Bay's Nicole Soulis and UW-Milwaukee's Traci Edwards.

    After transferring to UIC two years ago, senior Jackie Parker has established herself as one of the best defensive weapons on the court. Named to the Horizon League All-Defensive Team, Parker ranks 15th in the conference with 1.3 steals per game.

    Cleveland State's Dominique Butler, UW-Green Bay's Kayla Groh, UW-Green Bay's Nicole Soulis and Wright State's Brittany Whiteside join Parker on the All-Defensive team.

    Starting in 23 of 27 games for the Flames her rookie season, freshman Jessie Miller was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team. Averaging 9.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, Miller leads the squad at the free throw line (.812).

    In the league, Miller ranks ninth in assists (2.70), 15th in steals (1.30) and fourth in free throw percentage.

    Butler's Susan Lester, Cleveland State's Kailey Klein, Loyola's Maggie McCloskey and Youngstown State's Heather Karner rounded out the five All-Newcomer team recipients.

    All-Horizon League Second Team honors were awarded to Lade Akande (Butler), Joyce Massey (Detroit), Marquise Hanser (Loyola), Jenna Real (Loyola) and Brittany Whiteside (Wright State).

    Klein received Horizon League Newcomer of the Year honors and Soulis notched Horizon League Player of the Year accolades. Leading the Phoenix to a perfect 16-0 conference record this season, UW-Green Bay's Kevin Borseth was named Horizon League Coach of the Year.
