CHICAGO - Women's basketball player Katie Hannemann has been named the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Feb. 4-10. Hannemann guided the Flames to an 84-67 home victory against Milwaukee last Thursday night and for her efforts was selected as the Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Against the Panthers, Hannemann notched a career-high 29 points and 14 made field goals, including 19 points in the second half. The six-foot one-inch center bested her previous all-time high of 20 by nine points, while her 14 buckets stands as the second-highest total of any Horizon League player this season. Hannemann also corralled a game-high eight rebounds in home triumph.
The redshirt junior currently ranks 11th in the conference in scoring (13.2) and eighth in rebounding (6.9). Her season field goal percentage of 51.8% ranks fourth in the HL and 36th in the nation.
Hannemann collects her first UICFlames.com award and the second for women's basketball this season as freshman Terri Bender picked up the accolade on Jan. 2.
Women's basketball hits the road again on Saturday to face Valparaiso with tip scheduled for 1:05 p.m. CT. The contest will be the fifth away game for UIC in its last seven outings.
