ITALY - Former UIC women’s basketball player Jasmine Bailey recently signed a professional contract to play for Fila San Martino Di Lupari in Italy. Bailey enters her second season of professional basketball after graduating from UIC in the spring of 2012.
“The opportunity to continue my professional basketball career is a blessing and I am thankful for being able to do something I love,” said Bailey. “Being far away from my family is tough but I get through it and experiencing the world like this is amazing. Joining San Martino has been a great experience. This is a good organization run by great people and I love this city.”
Bailey spent her first professional season (2012-13) with ASC Sepsi SIC Sfantu Gheorghe in Romania's Liga Nationala. She appeared in 29 contests and led the team in points (17.4 ppg) and steals (2.8 spg). Bailey also averaged 7.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.
Bailey helped the squad advance to the Romanian Cup semifinals. Following the season, Bailey was selected to the EuroBasket.com All-Romanian League Second Team.
The St. Louis native ended her Flames career as the program’s third-leading scorer (1,535) and rebounder (1,018). During the 2011-12 season, Bailey guided UIC to its first appearance in the Horizon League semifinals in five years.
