Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team faces Valparaiso for the first time as Horizon League opponents on Thursday night at the Pavilion. The contest is set to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. CST.

The Flames enter the contest 4-9 overall and 0-2 in league action, while the Crusaders are 6-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

This marks the 27th meeting between UIC and Valparaiso. The Crusaders lead the series, 16-11. The two teams have not faced each other since Dec. 16, 2000. Valpo edged UIC by two points, 58-56.

UIC is looking to remain undefeated at home and notch its fifth victory of the season. The Flames fell in both contests in the opening weekend of Horizon League play against Youngstown State (Jan. 3) and Cleveland State (Jan. 5).

Sophomore Jessie Miller continues to pace UIC's offense with 12.5 points per game, ranking 14th in the league. Junior Nikki Grobbecker leads the Flames and owns fifth place in the conference with 6.6 rebounds per game.

Valparaiso is coming off three straight victories. The Crusaders upset Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse, 77-69, in their first Horizon League game of the season on Jan. 5.

Junior Agnieszka Kulaga ranks fourth in the league and first on the squad with 16.0 points per game, while both Kulaga and junior Aimee Litka lead the team with 4.6 boards per game.

UIC remains at home to square off against Butler on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 4:00 p.m.
