INDIANAPOLIS – Redshirt sophomore forward Ruvanna Campbell (Chicago, Ill./Crane) has been named the Horizon League's “Player of the Week" for the period of Dec. 30-Jan. 5, it was announced by the conference office Monday morning. This is the first “Player of the Week” award for Campbell and third for the Flames this season.

Campbell averaged 22.5 points and 11.0 rebounds last week in wins over Northern Illinois (Dec. 31) and Roosevelt (Jan. 3). She shot .720 from the field (18-of-25) and averaged 1.5 blocks over 27.5 minutes per contest.

Campbell has helped UIC tie a program record with 11 consecutive victories. The Flames' 11-2 record is the best 13-game start in program history.

The win streak ranks as the sixth longest in the nation. It only trails nine programs (No. 1 UConn, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 4 Stanford, No. 11 Iowa State, No. 22 Indiana, No. 24 San Diego, West Virginia, VCU and Fordham).

Campbell scored 17 of her 22 points in the first half to lead UIC to a 66-54 victory at Northern Illinois Tuesday (Dec. 31). She was 8-of-14 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the line. Campbell also collected a game-high nine rebounds.

Campbell then had 23 points and 13 rebounds over 19 minutes Friday (Jan. 3) in a 98-68 home win over Roosevelt. She recorded 15 points and 12 rebounds in the first half. Campbell finished 10-of-11 from the field.

Campbell owns four 20-point efforts and eight double-doubles this season. She has scored in double-figures a team-high 12 times and grabbed double-digit rebounds on nine occasions.

Campbell leads the Horizon League in double-doubles (8), rebounds (10.8 rpg) and field-goal percentage (.547). She also ranks second in blocks (1.5 bpg), second in offensive rebounds (4.0 per game) and eighth in scoring (15.3 ppg).

Campbell’s 10-of-11 (.909) shooting performance against Roosevelt is the most efficient in the conference thus far. Nationally, she ranks 19th in double-doubles, 24th in rebounding and 49th in field-goal percentage.

UIC begins Horizon League play Wednesday (Jan. 8) when the Flames travel to Wisconsin to take on Green Bay (7-5). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT inside the Kress Center.

In the Horizon League’s 2013-14 preseason poll, Green Bay was chosen to win the conference championship. The Phoenix have won or shared the Horizon League regular season title for 15 consecutive seasons.
