Women's Basketball Downs Mount St. Mary's in Consolation Game

Playa Del Carmen, Mexico-Shooting 52 percent from the field and 59 percent from behind the arc, the UIC women's basketball team rolled past Mount St. Mary´s University 83-67 for third-place at the 2005 Fun In The Sun Shootout.
UIC guard and all-tournament team recipient, LaShonda Grant, led the Flames with 17 points. Kelly True picked up a season-high 15 points and Chrissy Dizon added 14 points, nine boards, seven assists and five steals in UIC´s win.
With a double-double, the Mount´s Latoya Butler led MSM with 21 points and 18 rebounds. Dita Krumberga added 18 points and three steals.
The Flames heated up the scoreboard in the first half, scoring 16 straight points to give UIC a 24-5 lead. Holding the Mount to a 24 percent field goal percentage, the Flames shutdown the Mount on offense, allowing them only 24 points in the first half.
UIC shot 59 percent from the field and 100 percent from three-point land to lead 47-24 at halftime.
Doubling its shooting percentage in the second half, Mount St. Mary´s slowly chipped away at UIC´s advantage. The Mount hit five treys to trail by eight (70-61) with 6:13 left in regulation, but UIC turned on the hit and Krystal Hugelier and LaShonda Grant hit two three-pointers to extend the lead and top MSM, 83-67.
The Flames move to 4-7 overall and will kick-off Horizon League action December 31st at 11:30 am versus UW-Green Bay.
