Cancun, Mexico - The UIC women's basketball team fell to Southern Mississippi, 79-55, in its final contest of the 2007 Caribbean Classic in Cancun, Mexico on Wednesday afternoon. Junior Ashley Hluska tied her career-best with 12 points against the Golden Eagles.

Hluska was 6-for-9 from the field. Sophomore Cassie Johnson notched a season-high 11 points. Johnson was 4-for-5 from the field with a season-best seven boards. Sophomore Jessie Miller added nine points and three assists. Sophomore Briana Hinkle owned a team-high four assists against USM.

Southern Miss was powered by senior Liz Biland with 16 points and seven rebounds. Biland was 6-for-8 from the field, 2-for-2 from the line and shot 60 percent (3-for-5) from three-point land.

The first half was tight until Southern Miss sparked a 16-4 run at the 12:51 mark. The Golden Eagles shot 57 percent from the field in the first half to own a 43-28 advantage at intermission.

Hluska was 4-for-6 from the field in the first half, totaling a team-high eight points. Miller followed with seven points, while Hinkle swiped a season-best four steals in the first 20 minutes.

Southern Miss was 6-for-10 from beyond the arc in the second half and shot 50 percent from the field to capture the 24-point victory (79-55). The Golden Eagles move to 9-4 on the season, while UIC falls to 3-7.

The Flames return to Chicago to host Bucknell for the first time in school history on Friday, Dec. 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the UIC Pavilion.
