Chicago, Ill. - The University of Illinois at Chicago women's basketball team went on a 20-3 run over an eight minute stretch in the second half to help lead the Flames to the 72-55 victory over the Illinois State at the UIC Pavilion on Thursday night.

Senior guard LeKesha Williams scored a game-high 19 points for the Flames, while forwards Jaysie Chambers (11 points) and junior college transfer Andrea Milner (10 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds) each turned in solid efforts for the Flames.

Ryckbosch cited Milner's performance following the game.

"I think Andrea is very typical of a junior college kid," Ryckbosch said. "She takes more time to get settled in and feeling her oats.

"I'm not surprised by any stretch of the imagination, she's just one of those kids that does the right things."

With the victory, UIC improves to 4-1 on the season, while the Redbirds fall to 1-4 on the campaign

UIC continues to be strong defensively as the Flames forced 28 Illinois State turnovers and capitalized on the Redbirds' miscues with 37 points.

"I'm definitely pleased with our defensive performance," Ryckbosch said. "The thing we need to work on is making that translate into more points on the board for us.

"I'm certainly thrilled that we're forcing as many turnovers as we are."

UIC got off to a good start in the first half as they built a 26-14 lead behind eight points from Williams and six points from Milner.

Illinois State bounced back and countered with a 10-0 run, behind a pair of buckets from reserve forward Erin Keeney (13 points), to narrow the Flames' lead to 26-24 with 4:10 remaining in the first half.

Williams and senior point guard Consuela Hall (9 points) quickly put an end to the Redbirds' run as the backcourt combined for UIC's last ten points into the half as the Flames took a 36-28 lead into the intermission.



Illinois State got off to a hot start in the second half as they converted three buckets in the first minute of play to cut UIC's lead to 36-34.

Ryckbosch quickly called a time-out and UIC answered with their 20-3 run, led by seven points from Chambers to extend the Flames' lead to 58-37 and put the game out of reach for Illinois State.

Sharon Blade scored 13 points for Illinois State.

UIC will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, as they will travel to Delaware to square off with the Delaware State Hornets at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
