Chicago, Ill. - Sophomore Briana Hinkle notched a career-high 20 points en route to a 53-45 victory over Northwestern in UIC's home opener on Wednesday night at the Pavilion. Hinkle pulled down six boards and totaled a team-best three assists against the Wildcats.

"We are really proud of the team's effort tonight," said head coach Lisa Ryckbosch. "Everyone contributed in the win and we are really looking forward to building on this victory."

Sophomore Jessie Miller totaled 13 points, while junior Nikki Grobbecker led the Flames with eight rebounds.

Kaitlin McInerney paced the Wildcats with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jenny Eckhart added 11 points on the night, including two three-pointers. Nadia Bibbs owned a team-best four assists and tied the team-high with 11 boards.

After the Wildcats took an early 4-0 lead in the first half, the Flames sparked a 12-0 run. NU answered with a 6-2 burst, but UIC bounced back and owned a ten-point advantage at the 3:43 mark. Northwestern tacked on five points late in the half to cut the deficit (24-19) heading into the break.

UIC forced Northwestern to commit 13 turnovers in the first half. Hinkle was 6-for-12 in the first 20 minutes of play for 12 points.

The Flames held Northwestern to a .323 field goal percentage in the second half and outrebounded the Wildcats, 27-21. With the 53-45 win over NU, the Flames move to 1-1 on the season.

UIC heads to Peoria on Saturday, Nov. 17 to face Bradley at 2:05 p.m. CST.
