CHICAGO - Three Flames scored in the double digits as the UIC women's basketball team opened the 2009-10 season with an exhibition victory over city foe Chicago on Wednesday evening.

The Flames opened up the inaugural contest at the UIC Pavilion with a 41-19 lead at halftime, with 20 points coming off of Chicago turnovers. UIC lead by as many as 31 in the second half, but kept the visiting Maroons at bay to close out the evening with a 17-point cushion, winning 84-67.

Shameia Green scored 15 of her 19 points of the evening in the opening stanza, matched by teammate Jasmine Bailey, who also pulled down nine rebounds against Chicago. Veteran upperclassmen Cassie Johnson had a pair of blocks and nine points, while Jessie Miller turned in a 14 point performance.

"I'm pleased with the result, "said head coach Lisa Ryckbosch. " I would like to have seen us be more consistent and maintain a higher level of play the entire game, but as we keep working hard throughout the season we will get to where we want to be as a whole team."

The Flames close out exhibition play at the Pavilion with St. Xavier on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 5:30 p.m.
