CHICAGO - The UIC Flames took the floor at the Pavilion for the first time since March on Tuesday night and cruised to an exhibition win over the visiting St. Xavier Cougars, 77-50.

The Flames got off to a fast start in front of the home crowd, jumping out to 23-12 lead following a lay-in by senior Briana Hinkle less than halfway through the opening frame. UIC continued to keep its foot on the pedal, stretching the lead to 16 points at the half at 37-21.

The Flames shot 45.5 percent from the line in the opening half and 50 percent from beyond the arc with the help of sophomore Taylor Foulks who nailed three-of-four from distance and finished with 12 points in the first half.

The defense was also tight for UIC, limiting the Cougars to seven-for-30 from the field (23.3 percent).

The second half did not start as well for the home team as they turned twice in the first two possessions of the half.

"We got sloppy in the beginning of the second half," said UIC head coach Lisa Ryckbosch. "To the team's credit, they hung in there and I liked how we finished the game. Its one thing to have a rocky period, but they bounced back well tonight."

The Flames rebounded to outscore the Cougars by 11 in the second half.

Foulks filled up the stat sheet with 22 points, seven assists, six rebounds and five steals, leading all players in helpers and thefts in the game.

Fifth-year senior Briana Hinkle added 19 points and five rebounds, while redshirt freshman Katie Hannemann chipped in with a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds). All-Horizon League First Team selection Jasmine Bailey led all players with 11 boards in the game.

"I was pleased with how we shot the ball, but I wasn't pleased with how we turned it over in the second half. Again, given that we had a seven-person rotation and the amount of minutes they had to play, I was overall pleased with the first night out."

The Flames will play a final exhibition game on Monday, Nov. 8 when they host Davenport at the UIC Pavilion at 7 p.m. The regular season gets underway on Friday, Nov. 12 when UIC travels to take on the Niagara Purple Eagles.
