Women's Basketball Falls To Valparaiso In The Regular Season Finale, 88-77
March 6, 2010 CHICAGO - The UIC women's basketball game lost their second straight game and their fourth in the last five contests after falling to Valparaiso, 88-77, at the UIC Pavilion on Saturday. It was Senior Day for the Flames and UIC's two soon-to-be-graduates did all they could to get a win, but in the end it was Valparaiso's senior Lauren Kenney and her career-high 27 points off the bench that got the best of the home team. Overall, UIC head coach Lisa Ryckbosch was disappointed by the defensive effort from her team. "We gave up 88 points to a team that averages 57.5," said Ryckbosch after the game. "We didn't defend like we're capable of defending. We couldn't stop [Raegan] Moore and we certainly had no answer for Kenney." Raegan Moore had a career-high 25 points. The two players [Moore and Kenney] combined to shoot 20-for-29 (69.6 percent) from the field and combine for 59 percent (52-of-88) of Valparaiso's (9-20, 6-12 Horizon League) scoring output. "Every team in this league is capable of stepping it up. If you don't bring your `A' game you're going to get beat." UIC (12-16, 9-9 Horizon League) senior Jessie Miller scored a team-high 18 points to give her 1,454 points in her career and place the Burnsville, Minnesota native fourth on the Flames all-time scoring list. Jasmine Bailey added 17 points and Taylor Foulks chipped in with 14, including four three-pointers. Prior to the game, UIC honored three departing seniors: Miller, Cassie Johnson and student-manager Shakitta Parham for their hard work and dedication to the program for the past four seasons. Johnson also received a commemorative basketball to honor her as the school's all-time leading shot blocker. She currently has 164 career rejections in a UIC uniform.
