Chicago, Ill. - An impressive overall performance by the UIC women's basketball team helped guide the squad to a 66-36 victory over Detroit on Saturday afternoon at the Pavilion. With the win, the Flames move to 8-12 overall and 4-5 in league play.

"It was great to play 40 minutes of solid basketball," said head coach Lisa Ryckbosch. "We are playing the kind of basketball that we are capable of playing and it was nice to have everyone contribute."

Sophomore Jessie Miler was 5-for-7 from the field, totaling a team-best 12 points. Sophomore Cassie Johnson was just two rebounds shy of a double-double with 10 points and eight boards. Johnson also led the team with three blocks.

Sophomore Briana Hinkle totaled a career-best eight assists. Freshman Shanice Sadler tied her season-high nine rebounds while also adding six points on the afternoon. Freshman Taylor Manley tabbed eight points, followed by freshman Ashley Tomzik (7) and junior Meghan Hutchens (6).

Freshman Gabi Hungerford paced Detroit with 16 points and six rebounds. Hungerford was 4-for-8 from three-point land and added a team-high three steals against the Flames.

Controlling the first half, UIC exploded offensively at the 6:50 mark with a 21-7 run to head into the break with a 20-point advantage (43-23).

The Flames continued to dominate after the break, holding the Titans to just 13 points and a .139 field goal percentage in the second half. UIC took its largest lead of the contest (66-33) on a layup from Tomzik with less than a minute left in regulation. The Flames went on to pick up their seventh home win of the season with a 66-36 victory over Detroit.

UIC outrebounded the Titans, 52-38. The Flames also picked up nine more assists than Detroit (19-10).

The 30-point victory marks the widest winning margin since the Flames defeated Alabama State, 84-39, on Nov. 20, 2005.

UIC travels to Indiana next week to face Butler on Feb. 7 and Valparaiso on Feb. 9.
