SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The UIC men’s and women’s cross country teams concluded action at the 58th Annual Notre Dame Invitational on Friday afternoon at Notre Dame Golf Course. The men took home 17th place, while the women finished 19th overall.
The men were led by freshman Kyle Hauser who placed 74th overall against 193 runners, with a time of 27:00.60 in the five-mile race. Other contributors included seniors Arash Darbandi (27:06.00) and Photis Karkalis (27:10.70) who finished within the top 100.
“Tess Ehrhardt took a big step today as she raced against some of the best in the Midwest and turned in a great result,” said head coach Jim Knoedel. “I couldn’t have been more excited about her performance today. She ran against some very good runners from throughout the Midwest and produced a fast time in the hot and muggy conditions.”
For the women, Horizon League Runner of the week Tess Ehrhardt paced the squad with a time of 17:47.90, securing an eighth-place spot among 212 other runners. Sophomore Lauren Lindholm also finished within the top 100 with a time of 18:47.80.
“Even though we beat two Horizon League teams we still lost to Oakland and YSU so I know we will have to double our efforts so we are better prepared when we face them in November,” said Knoedel.
The Flames return to action on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the UW-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. CT.
