CHICAGO - The 2013 UIC men's and women's cross country schedule was released Monday, a slate that kicks off with the annual home opener in Palos Heights on Saturday, August 31. Both the men's and women's teams finished second at the 2012 Horizon League Championship.

"Although we start off the season as we have for the past 15 years with the UIC Home Opener, we have a lot of new meets this season," said head coach Jim Knoedel. "We've added the national-caliber Notre Dame Invitational, the challenging course of the UW-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational, and the prestigious Indiana State Pre-National Invitational, on the course used for the 2013 NCAA Championships."

"We want to take a step up into some of the big meets in the Midwest and this schedule affords us that opportunity."

The Flames will head to the annual Illinois Intercollegiate Championships in Normal, Ill., on Saturday, Sept. 13, followed by a trip to Warrenville, Ill., to take part in the College of DuPage Invitational two weeks later (Saturday, Sept. 27).

The month of October will kick off with the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Friday, Oct. 4. The Flames will travel to Kenosha, Wis., to compete in the UW-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational the following Saturday (Oct. 12). October's slate will wrap up on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the ISU Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.

The 2013 Horizon League Championship will be hosted by Youngstown State on Saturday, Nov. 2, and the NCAA Midwest Regional meet is set for Friday, Nov. 15 in Ames, Iowa.
